Supa Piet became the first quad to complete a half ironman when he complete Ironman 70.3 in Busselton earlier this year and he is now in for the big daddy, Ironman Western Australia. Speak to yet another ordinary everyday Triathlon hero, Ryan Habib, who is slugging it out week after week trying to be the best he can be while providing for his wife and son. Ryan also wrote a pretty cool article after the recent Midlands Ultra Triathlon.

ITU Add Cape Town to 2014 World Series, First Ascent Tri Suits & Gaelyn Cokayne’s Inspiring Triathlon Journey – Tri Talk SA Episode 20

11 Global Weekend, Pietie Coetzee and Robin Hide from Modern Athlete – Tri Talk SA Episode 18

We spent the last weekend up at Sun City for the 11 Global that took place at the resort over the weekend and what an amazing weekend it was. We have a jam packed show for you this weekend and on Tri Talk SA this week: 11 Global Swim

Jaryd Browne raced his last race as a junior and we caught up with him after his win in the Sprint race on Saturday.

We spoke to Wikus Weber after he was the first elite athlete home in the Sprint. Wikus went on to win the Standard distance race on Sunday too and in doing so claimed the Eleven Squared title for the fastest combined time over the weekend.

Sam Harrington was the first lady home on Sunday and we chatted to her about her recent marriage as well as her great win on Sunday.

Miguel Viera, the first Angolan to finish an Ironman, spoke to us about his race on Sunday and what he has planned for the upcoming season.

The inspiring Frans Lotter completed the standard distance race on Sunday having just completed a course of chemotherapy following being diagnosed with cancer less than a year ago.

South African hockey legend Pietie Coetzee also took part in the 11Global this weekend. She raced in both the Sprint and Standard distance and claimed an overall podium spot in her first triathlon. We caught up with Pietie to chat about her amazing hockey career and how she got involved in the sport of triathlon. We also asked Pietie how she sees triathlon fitting into her life after she retires from international hockey.

Ironman 5150 Ekurhuleni winners Henri Schoeman & Andrea Steyn, Gaby Roasrio’s amazing story & Paul Kaye wraps the weekend – Tri Talk SA Episode 17

It was another successful weekend of racing this past weekend at the Ironman 5150 Ekurhuleni African Championships. On episode 17 of Tri Talk SA this week we:

  • Chat to both the men’s and ladies winner, Henri Schoeman and Andrea Steyn, following their very successful weekend in Germiston. This is where you can see the Ironman 5150 Ekurhuleni race results.

Kyle Buckingham on his AG win & world record in Kona and Morne Botha talks Slanghoek Triathlon & coming back from injury – Tri Talk SA Episode 16


It has been a week and a bit since Ironman World Championships in Kona Hawaii and this week we were able to catch up with one of the top performers on the day. On episode 16 of Tri Talk SA Brad:

KyleChats to Kyle Buckingham about his amazing 16th overall in Kona. Not only did Kyle beat most of the pro field but he was the first age grouper home and smashed the age group world record at the same time. Kyle spoke to Brad about being coached by Raynard Tissink, as well as what his race schedule will look like in 2014, now that he is turning pro.

Caught up with Morne Botha about this past weekend’s Slanghoek Triathlon in the Western Cape.  Morne has come full circle in the last year having ruptured his achilles tendon the day after last year’s race. Having to undergo surgery and an extensive rehab programme, Morne has worked his way back into the sport by practically starting from scratch. The pair chat about what physiotherapist Chris Allen, from the Velocity Sports Lab, has done for Morne and they also spoke about the AlterG Anti-gravity treadmill that Morne used as part of his recovery.

What an amazing weekend it was in Kona this past weekend. From a South African perspective it was probably the most successful race we have had as a nation. This week on Tri Talk SA we:

  • Caught up with James Cunnama, who finished fourth on Sunday in a top elite men’s field. James spoke to us about his race, how he had vowed to not come back to Kona until he was ready and also about what is next on his agenda. James also told us a little bit about his girlfriend Jodie Swallow’s race.
  • Spoke to ISM South Africa’s Marc Price. The most used saddle at this weekend’s Ironman World Championships was the ISM saddle and we asked Marc why. We also spoke about what makes ISM saddles unique and the importance of getting a correct set up when purchasing an ISM saddle.   • Also chatted to Kyle McConnach about the new XDirt National Sprint Triathlon Series that they are about to launch. The first race in the series gets underway at the Buffelspoort Dam in the North West province on the first of December 2014 and a few interesting additions have been made, including an off road bike and a team aspect to the series.
